🔤 Make the text-behind-you effect

The text-wrap effect — a big word sitting behind the subject of a photo, letters half-hidden by a shoulder or head — instantly makes a post look art-directed. It's a 10-minute effect once you know the layer trick, and AI makes each step easier.

How the illusion works

Three layers: the original photo on the bottom, the text in the middle, and a cutout of just the subject on top. The subject covers parts of the letters, so the text reads as "behind" them. That's the whole trick.

The 10-minute build (Canva or CapCut, free)

1. Place your photo — one clear subject, clean-ish background, subject not filling the whole frame.
2. Add the text — one big word or short phrase, bold font, sized to overlap the subject.
3. Duplicate the photo and remove its background (both apps have one-click background removal). You now have a floating cutout of the subject.
4. Stack the cutout on top, aligned exactly over the original. The letters disappear behind the subject. Nudge until it's pixel-perfect.

Where AI earns its spot

For video, the same layering works in CapCut with auto-cutout — the subject moves and the text holds still behind them, which looks even more expensive.
