🎯 Ad copy that converts (without a copywriter)
Most small-business ads fail for one reason: they talk about the business instead of the customer's problem. AI won't fix a bad offer, but it will write, vary, and iterate good copy faster than any freelancer. Here's the system.
Start with the offer, not the words
Before writing anything, pressure-test the offer itself:
Act as a direct-response marketing strategist. My business: [what you do]. My proposed ad offer: [the offer]. Critique it honestly: Is it specific? Is there urgency or a reason to act now? Does it lower the risk of trying us? Suggest 3 stronger versions of the same offer.
The variation matrix
Never test one ad. Generate a matrix — 3 angles × 2 lengths — and let the platform tell you what works:
Write ad copy for [platform: Facebook/Google]. Business: [details]. Audience: [who]. Offer: [offer]. Create 6 variations in a table:
- Angle A: lead with the problem the customer feels
- Angle B: lead with the result they want
- Angle C: lead with proof (years in business, reviews, local trust)
For each angle: one short version (under 50 words) and one longer version (100-125 words). Every version: plain language, one CTA, no hype words like "unleash" or "revolutionary."
Read the results, then iterate
Run the variations with a small budget for a week. Then bring the numbers back:
Here are my ad results: [paste: impressions, clicks, cost per click, leads per variation]. Which angle is winning and why do you think that is? Write 4 new variations that push harder on the winning angle.
Google vs. Facebook in one paragraph
Google ads catch people already searching for what you sell — copy should match the search and remove doubt. Facebook ads interrupt people who weren't looking — copy has to earn attention with a hook first. Don't reuse the same copy across both; ask AI to adapt it and it will.
The landing page matters more than the ad. If clicks aren't converting, the ad did its job and your page dropped the ball. That's a different fix —
the website copy guide covers it.
