🎭 Make your site not look AI-built: the 4-role review

You can spot an AI-built site in two seconds: centered hero, gradient blob, three feature cards, generic stock energy. The fix is a review system — four critic roles that argue with the design before anyone else sees it. Run it on any site, AI-built or not.

Why sites converge on "AI look"

Generators produce the statistical average of good design — and average is the opposite of memorable. Breaking the average takes deliberate, opinionated passes. That's what the four roles do.

The 4-role review (run each as a separate prompt)

Role 1: The brand critic

You are a ruthless brand critic. Here's my site: [paste the page content/structure, or screenshots]. My business: [details]. Tell me: what about this page could belong to ANY company in my industry? What's generic in the headlines, the imagery choices, the section patterns? For each generic element, propose a version only MY business could ship — using my real details: [town, years, specialties, actual customer stories].

Role 2: The typography snob

You are a typography-obsessed designer. Review my site's text treatment: font choices, size hierarchy, line length, spacing rhythm. What reads as "template default"? Give me specific changes — sizes, weights, spacing values — that would make the type feel deliberately designed.

Role 3: The skeptical customer

You are a skeptical local customer with three tabs open comparing companies. Walk my page top to bottom: where do you doubt us, where do you get bored, what question isn't answered, and what would make you close the tab? Be specific about the exact section and line.

Role 4: The detail finisher

You are a design detailer doing the final pass. List the small marks of a hand-finished site missing here: custom favicon, consistent icon style, real photography, hover states, a distinctive footer, one signature visual element that repeats. Rank by effort-to-impact.

The order matters

Brand first (biggest changes), then type, then customer flow, then details. Each role's fixes go back into the builder before the next role reviews. Two hours total, and the site stops looking generated.

The real tell is specificity. Your town's name in the copy, photos of your actual crew, an opinion in your headline. AI look isn't a design flaw — it's an absence of you. The four roles are just a system for injecting you back in.
