These aren't magic words — they're meta-prompts: instructions that change HOW Claude works rather than what it works on. Five of them, each one line, each fixing a failure mode you've definitely hit.

1. The interview flip

Before answering, ask me the 3-5 questions that would most improve your answer. Then wait.

Fixes: generic output. Claude knows what it's missing — this makes it ask instead of guess. Use on anything where context matters: quotes, plans, drafts for a specific audience.

2. The self-critique pass

Now review your own answer as a tough editor: what's weak, generic, wrong, or missing? Then give me the improved version.

Fixes: first-draft syndrome. The second pass is reliably better, and you didn't have to spot the flaws yourself.

3. The confidence label

For each claim in your answer, label it: [solid], [likely], or [check this] — and tell me which single claim I should verify first.

Fixes: confident-sounding wrongness. AI states guesses and facts in the same tone; this separates them so your fact-checking goes where it matters.

4. The steelman

I believe [X]. Make the strongest honest case that I'm wrong — no strawmen, argue it like someone smart who disagrees with me.

5. The handoff brief

Summarize everything important from this conversation as a brief I can paste into a fresh chat: context, decisions made, open questions, and where we left off.

Fixes: long-chat decay. Conversations get slow and muddled as they grow; this lets you restart clean without losing the thread — and doubles as documentation.

Stack them: interview flip before the work, self-critique after it, confidence labels on anything factual. Three lines, and average output turns professional.
