🧗 The complete Claude power-user setup

Claude out of the box is a great generalist. Configured, it's YOUR specialist. This is the complete power-user setup as one roadmap — every layer, in install order, with links to the deep guides. Do a layer a week; four weeks to fully kitted.

Week 1: Identity (the free upgrades)

1. Custom instructions — who you are, your business, how you want answers. Five minutes, permanent payoff.
2. Projects — one per ongoing area (marketing, ops, a big client). Load each with its standing context and files.
3. Your voice samples — paste 2-3 examples of your writing into the Projects that draft things. Everything starts sounding like you.
4. Mode shortcuts — your ten keywords in custom instructions.

Week 2: Capabilities

1. Official document skills — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF output (Settings → Capabilities).
2. Extended thinking — know where the toggle is and when to use it.
3. Web search — make sure it's on; answers about the current world need it.
4. Your first custom skill — /brand-post, fifteen minutes.

Week 3: Connections

1. The first three MCP connectors — files, browser, calendar/email. Read-only first where offered.
2. One platform connector you live in — your project tool, your CRM, your design app.
3. Claude Desktop if you haven't — connectors and file work live there.

Week 4: Automation

1. Scheduled tasks — the recurring jobs: morning brief, weekly report (the overnight guide).
2. Your first agent — one multi-step job with approval gates.
3. Claude Code + plugins — if you build anything: install it, add official plugins via /plugin, learn checkpoints and the bill guide.
4. The remaining four custom skills — quote, recap, reply, report.

The maintenance habit (this is the actual secret)

Monthly, ten minutes: prune Project files that went stale, delete shortcuts and skills you didn't use, add one rule for each miss you noticed. A setup that's maintained beats a setup that's maximal — context rot is real, and lean setups answer better.
