๐Ÿ”— The 3 MCP connectors to add first

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is how Claude connects to real tools โ€” the difference between an assistant that talks about your work and one that can see it. There are hundreds of connectors now. These are the three to add first, in order, and the safety habits to build from connector one.

First: your files

What it unlocks: Claude reads and works with actual documents โ€” the folder of invoices, the drafts, the spreadsheet โ€” instead of you pasting fragments. Connect Google Drive (or give Claude Desktop folder access for local files).

First jobs: "Summarize what's in this folder." "Find every mention of [client] across these docs." "Organize these files โ€” propose the structure first."

Second: your browser

What it unlocks: Claude sees and interacts with live web pages โ€” your site, your listings, web apps without connectors. The Claude Chrome extension covers general browsing; DevTools MCP adds the developer view of your own site.

First jobs: "Check my Google Business listing and tell me what's missing." "Walk through my site's contact flow like a customer and note the friction."

Third: calendar and email

What it unlocks: the daily-driver assistant โ€” "what's my week look like," "draft replies to what came in overnight," "find an hour for [task]." This is the connector pair that makes the Jarvis setup real.

First jobs: morning brief; inbox triage into needs-me / can-wait / ignore; "draft, don't send" replies.

The safety habits (start on day one)

  1. Read-only first. Let Claude see the calendar before it can change it. Widen per-tool after a few weeks of trust.
  2. Official or well-known sources only. A connector is code with access to your accounts. Anthropic's connector directory and official vendor connectors first; random GitHub repos only if you can vet them.
  3. Drafts, not sends. Keep the human click between Claude and anything leaving your accounts โ€” same rule as agents.
  4. One at a time. Add a connector, use it a week, then add the next. You learn each one's quirks while the blast radius is small.
The fourth connector is your call: whatever tool you live in most โ€” project manager, CRM, accounting. By then you'll know exactly what to ask of it, because the first three taught you the rhythm.
